The Financial Crisis

Print Friendly and PDF The financial crisis the world is facing reminds me of the story Jesus told of the prodigal son. The western countries have acted like the younger brother who left the safety of his family home with a large share of the estate to go into the world and spend the money on reckless living. When the money finally ran out just as a famine came to the land, the young man found he had no friends left and no food to eat. He grovelled to find a job feeding the pigs and was forced to eat pig food. Finally he came to his senses and with great humility, decided to go home to apologise to his father and ask to be accepted back as a servant. But to his great surprise, his dad watching from a distance ran out to meet him, embraced him with tears and threw a great party to celebrate his lost sons return! So even though the "post christian" western world has left it's spiritual home behind and spent all it's inherited wealth foolishly and lived recklessly, this will be the Fathers response should this younger son come to his senses and return home. I really hope so.
